Marife B. BS, CPT
Hey everyone! My name is Marife, pronounced as "Mary fay." I was born and raised in Hawai'i and have been here all my life.
To preface, I have my Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science, focused in Health and Exercise Science. I am a personal trainer, certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In college, I took a course on strength and conditioning and have knowledge in strength training athletes in a variety of sports. I have experience working in different physical therapy clinics, such as geriatric care, pediatric care, acute care, and working with cancer patients on strength training. I am currently working as a physical therapy aide and a personal trainer during my gap year, as I plan on going back to graduate school to pursue my Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. My Fitness Journey
Throughout high school, I never had anyone point me in the direction of health and fitness. I would mindlessly scroll through social media and see so many people have flat stomachs and tried so hard to achieve that look. During this time, doing excessive amounts of cardio and seeing everyone running outside made me think that this is what "being fit" was. I weighed 80 pounds, did so much cardio, and starved myself, thinking that I was "fit" too. My eating habits were off because I didn't have the proper knowledge on how to properly fuel my body. I struggled a lot with self image which lead me to a pattern of starving myself on some days to binge eating everything in sight the following day.
Fast forward into my first year of college, I was in architect school and was so miserable as I pulled all-nighters and ate so much junk food. I picked up on some bad habits of drinking alcohol, partying, and skipping school to sleep all day. I disregarded fitness altogether. A year later, I dropped out of architect school, lost ALL my scholarships, and was so lost in life. I ended up finding an interest in Physical Therapy and switched my major to Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science. I began taking care of myself again and eating better along with going to the gym regularly. I struggled with a lot of things throughout college, but one thing I knew was that taking care of my overall health and mental health is what kept me going.
With everything that I learned, I intend on helping others using the knowledge from my education along with my own experiences. I know what it feels like to feel lost without any guidance and hope to give advice to anyone who needs to be pushed in the right direction.
I am always free to answer any questions there are about fitness, nutrition, guidance, mental health, etc.
Also, make sure to check out my fitness programs and instagram page! :)
